Welcome to West Carthage Elementary!

My name is Marcy Petzoldt and I am proud to be the principal of West Carthage Elementary. It is my first year in this role and I look forward to the opportunity to serve as a leader and join an excellent team of professionals at Carthage CSD. I will work to support the district’s mission to improve student success, build community connections, and prioritize health and safety.

My educational background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood and Childhood Education from SUNY Cortland (go Red Dragons!). I also hold a Master’s Degree in Literacy from SUNY Potsdam and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from SUNY Oswego.

I am joining Carthage CSD as an experienced educator in my seventeenth year in education. My professional background has provided me with the opportunity to serve in different roles throughout my career, and I have experience with students at every grade level K-5. While my professional career is very important to me, I also deeply cherish my other roles as a wife and mom of three wonderful boys. As a parent and educator, I am committed to being a lifelong learner who is always looking to do what is best for kids (whether they are part of our home or our school community).
When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family and our dog Shelby. She is the sixth member of our family and she goes almost everywhere we go. We love to pursue adventures outdoors such as kayaking, swimming, hiking, camping, and skiing/snowboarding. We also love to watch/participate in many sports, travel, and spend time in the kitchen cooking together.
